Prerequisites:
Cytopathology applicants must have been a medical member of the IAC (MIAC) for two (2) years.
Cytotechnology applicants must have three (3) years of full-time experience in cytotechnology immediately prior to taking the examination. Applicants must be employed at the time of application. Prior to applying to sit for the CT (IAC) examination cytotechnologists working and living in a country in which a national registry for cytotechnologists exist (such as Australia, Canada, Japan, the Netherlands, South Africa, the USA etc.) must have passed the national examination in the country in which he/she is working.
TIMING FOR THE CYTOPATHOLOGY EXAMINATION
Microscopic -
90 minutes (3 minutes for each slide)
Visual Image -
80 minutes (1 minute per image if projected onto a screen, otherwise 80 minutes if the images are on paper).
Written -
80 minutes (up to 80 minutes)
Actual examination time =
250 minutes or 4 hours and 10 minutes
There is usually a break of 20-30 minutes between the microscopic and the visual image examination.
Depending on the situation there could be a longer break between the microscopic and the visual image examination.
TIMING FOR THE CYTOTECHNOLOGY EXAMINATION
Microscopic -
90 minutes (3 minutes for each slide)
Visual Image -
40 minutes (1 minute per image if projected onto a screen, otherwise 40 minutes if the images are on paper).
Written -
80 minutes (up to 80 minutes)
Actual examination time =
210 minutes or 3 hours and 30 minutes
There is usually a break of 20-30 minutes between the microscopic and the visual image examination.
Depending on the situation there could be a longer break between the microscopic and the visual image examination
Examinations for both, cytopathologists, and cytotechnologists, will be held during the 35th European Congress of Cytology
